Oklahoma Contemporary in “How Did They Build That?”

Season 3, Episode 2

Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in OKC shares this episode with Frank Gehry’s new business school in Sydney, Australia and Amazon’s “Spheres” BioOffice  in Seattle.

How Did We Land That?  In short, they called. The U.K. producers were drawn to Rand Elliott Architects’ four-story project because of its beauty, its bold absence of right angles, and an inventive system of exterior “fins.” (Nine different fin designs create a rhythm on its reflective exterior to mirror the spectrum of colors in the Oklahoma sky.)

The producers were impressed with the rigor required to construct a such a sculptural building that would also be strong and “tornado-proof.”  They also called it “an Oklahoma masterpiece.”
